Opened in 2014, One World Trade Center (OWTC) in New York holds the title of America’s tallest building, unseating Chicago’s Willis Tower. The OWTC was built to replace the former Twin Towers after
they were destroyed on September 11, 2001. It stands at 1776 feet (541.3 metres), a height commemorating the year that the Declaration of Independence was signed. Indeed, nine out of ten of America’s tallest buildings are in New York or Chicago. Among them: the Empire State Building – King Kong’s favourite climbing frame – is no. 5 and Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago is no. 4, at a massive 423.2 m.
